22At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, "God is with you in all that you do."23Now swear to me by God: If you deceive me or my offspring or my descendants—as the steadfast love that I have shown you, you shall show me and the land in which you have sojourned."24Abraham said, "I will swear."25And Abraham rebuked Abimelech about the matter of the well of water that Abimelech's servants had seized.26Abimelech said, "I did not know who did this thing. You did not tell me, and I did not hear about it until today."27And Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant.28And Abraham set the seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.29And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What are these seven ewe lambs that you have set by themselves?"30And he said, "Because you will take seven ewe lambs from my hand, so that it will be a witness for me that I dug this well."31Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath.32And they made a covenant at Beersheba. And Abimelech rose with Phicol the commander of his army, and they returned to the land of the Philistines.33And he planted a tamarisk in Beersheba and called on the name of the LORD, the Eternal God, there.34And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.
